There are thousands of books on Sales, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship. All the three skills are essential to run any kind of business. There are a very few self-help books that focus directly on how to create and run your side hustles like a pro.
It is always inspiring to read about fellow hustlers who have been there and done that, despite being in the same rat race as we are.
Books that will inspire you to start your side business
Let us look at some of the books that have made a profound impact and inspired many to take action in pursuing their side business ideas. This list is arrived at no particular order – pick any book you like and start reading.
1. Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk
Gary Vaynerchuk is synonymous with the word ‘hustle’ and he has been a strong advocate of ‘making the most of your time’. His practical advice on how to cash in on your passion with multiple examples from his personal journey will inspire you. This book is a short one at 135 odd pages but it is packed with gems in Gary’s tone.
He also provides a super useful checklist at the end of the book. You can read my detailed review of the book here.
2. The 100$ Startup by Chris Guillebeau
If there is one particular author who has dominated this niche of side businesses, its Chris Guillebeau. He has written super useful content on finding personal passions, converting them into thriving small businesses using minimal budgets like 100$.
He presents numerous case studies of people like you and me who have struck the right balance and changed their lives for the better.
3. Crushing It by Gary Vaynerchuk
This is a sequel to ‘Crush It’. The book’s got an interesting purpose. The first book was a big hit and there were many who got inspired by that.
There were many people who took action, found their passion and started their own business after reading the first book. This book contains the best case studies of the achievers who took action.
Gary also dissects modern day social media platforms and takes us through how a common man can leverage these platforms to amplify their reach. This book has a special place in my heart as I received a signed copy from the man himself.
4. Side Hustle: From Idea to Income in 27 Days by Chris Guillebeau
This is an excellent follow-up book for any of the books mentioned above. This book by Chris Guillebeau focusses on the execution steps.
He breaks down the process from idea to income across 27 days – chapters are grouped under Ideation, Selection, Lift-off, and Launch. This can serve as a perfect guide when you are planning to kickstart a side hustle. This book stays true to its name.
This book has a companion podcast by the author himself and you can check out the same here.
5. Will it Fly by Pat Flynn
Pat Flynn is one of my favorite internet entrepreneurs and his practical advice on building online businesses has very few parallels. His emails are friendly, honest and never pushy.
This book will help you to arrive at the right idea by discarding the bad ones. The art of business validation is a great skill to pick up and Pat Flynn is well equipped to teach it.
He also has a free ‘Will it Fly’ companion course for the book’s readers that provides a lot of resources and worksheets that will help the readers to kickstart their side business with confidence.
