I am a big fan of WordPress’s Year in Review posts. Sadly I haven’t seen them lately. Bring it back WordPress 🙂
As the year 2018 comes to a close, I thought it would be a perfect time to reflect back on the milestones, goals, and happenings in my life this year.
1. Blogging Goals
Goal : 52 blog posts in 2018
At the start of 2018, I had the goal of writing one blog post per week which translates to 52 blog posts.
Three blogs already and yet I started one more – Dosidegigs ( the one you are reading right now). I have not monetized my blogs and I just made 100 USD through affiliate marketing.
My goal this year was to write 52 blog posts (one per week). Let’s look at the number of blog posts written under the websites mentioned above.
SellBetter – 6
Dosidegigs – 12
Personal Blog – 2
Goal for 2019 : 52 blog posts and making at least 2000 USD from Blogging
2. Reading Goals
Goal for 2018 : Reading 50 Books
I started with a super ambitious goal of reading 100 books in 2018 and then after giving it a practical thought, changed the goal to read 50 books.
I was on track to achieve the goal as I was spending close to 2 hours everyday, commuting to office by taking the train which allowed me to read a lot. Then I started working from home around August and my reading progress nosedived.
In case you are interested in the list of books I read, here is a snapshot
Goal for 2019 : 50 books
3. Meet Gary Vaynerchuk
This is a story in itself. I have documented the whole experience of how it all happened in this blog post here.
I came to know about Gary Vaynerchuk in 2017, read all his books, followed his works closely on all his social channels and wrote ‘Meet Gary Vaynerchuk’ in my goals for 2018. Participated in a contest and ended up being the top winner and met Gary Vaynerchuk & received a signed copy of his latest book.
Here’s the picture with the man himself.
Make at least 200000 INR through freelancing
One of my key goals in 2018 was to build a second source of income. Freelancing is a great way to put your skillsets to use and learn a lot of new things in the process.
The aim of this website is to inspire and help readers to kick start their side hustles. I started taking freelance projects (web design + content) by the start of September 2018.
Total Revenue : 169578 (roughly 2440 USD)
5. Guest Speaking Opportunities
As someone who loves public speaking, I was fortunate to do a lot of speaking gigs in India. I moved to Canada in July 2017 and I was looking forward to kick-starting my journey as a Speaker.
Workhaus is one of the leading co-working startups in Toronto with over 6 locations in the downtown area. Workhaus Academy puts together a lot of useful events around the calendar year.
I got an opportunity to do a 2 – hour long session on ‘ The Art of Storytelling ‘. It was attended by over 50+ attendees and I received very positive feedback on the same. More details about the event here.
Goal for 2019 : 5 Speaking Gigs
6. Doing something that scares me
Yes, the YOLO kind. I am no adventure junkie and the folks who know me will swear by the same.
In the summer, I had been to Scenic caves (Ontario) with friends. Though I knew there was a zip-line, I was very sure I will not even get close to that activity. I came across a flyer with more information about the twin zip-line.
It is Ontario’s longest twin zip-line with a length of 2550 feet. The vertical drop height is 287 feet. The rider will have to control the speeds and movement & it can reach a maximum of 70
I stood there close to the start point and saw fellow travelers squealing all the way until they disappeared as a small dot in the distance.
It was a now or never moment. Like any other sane soul, I flipped a coin and it turned out to be ‘yes’. When the results are not in your favor when you flip a coin, you do a ‘best of 3’.
In all the three instances, it was ‘Go for it’. The Universe really conspired. I listened to the signs and went for it.
I am putting together the list of goals for 2019 and this article will be updated with the same shortly. Thanks for reading my journey.
2018 was a great year and I am looking forward to a fulfilling 2019 just like you. Wishing you the best of times ahead 🙂
